This homemade all-purpose cleaner has replaced almost EVERY surface cleaner I previously used and I’m kinda pumped about it. I mean, who wants to spend money and waste space on multiple (expensive) spray bottles? It may seem like a small victory, but this is one of those things that can save you a lot of money over time. Chances are you might already have the ingredients for this cleaner in your house.
Simple Ingredients
The great thing about this all-purpose cleaner is that it is made from ingredients you already use in your everyday household. Dish soap, rubbing alcohol and filtered water are the main ingredients. We also added a few drops of affordable essential oil for a pleasant fragrance.
Rubbing Alcohol
According to the CDC, alcohol solutions can be used for disinfecting if it is at least 70% concentration. Be sure not to dilute your alcohol to less than 50% as germ-killing abilities start to dramatically decrease.
Dish Soap
I believe soap is essential for a good quality all-purpose cleaner. It cuts grease and lifts the grime off surfaces. Cleaning a surface without soap is like conditioning your hair without shampooing it first, yuck! I don’t want to just disinfect and shine the surfaces in my home, I want to know that the dirt and grime have been removed! We usually purchase a giant value size container of dish soap and use that to refill our all-purpose cleaner bottles. Just a few drops of soap is all it takes!
Glass all-purpose spray bottles
These spray bottles came in super handy for this homemade cleaner. They are aesthetically pleasing sitting on my kitchen countertops. I love the way it looks with the custom labels I made with my label maker.
Your choice of essential oil
I have not been able to convince myself to spend a million dollars on high-grade essential oils just yet. In the meantime, I really enjoy using this lovely lavender-scented essential oil. It’s the perfect ingredient to top off our homemade all-purpose cleaner.
