This fall front porch décor is sure to give you all the feels! As the smell of fresh pumpkin spice and apple cider fill the air, you know it’s time to start decorating! Layers of hay bales, pumpkins, and mums create a beautiful display of vibrant oranges, yellows, reds, and purples. Best of all, this look is very easy to put together!
My approach to this fall front porch look
Truth is, there was no real strategy to create this look. With a little Pinterest inspiration and some random items I already picked up from some local stores, I realized I had just enough props to get my front door area really festive for fall.
When I put this fall front door look together last year (yes this was photographed and filmed last year, and I’m just now getting around to posting it!) Ahh I know, anyway, my friend told me she saw my pictures of my front porch on Facebook and said “There is no way I could do something like that.”
Ugh, if she only knew how easy it was to do this! I am in no way a professionally trained landscaper/decorator/photographer whatever you want to call it. I just started off by purchasing two square bales from a local feed store and went from there.
Fall Fresh Pumpkins
These gorgeous pumpkins are from our local Texas grocery store (HEB). I made sure to select a variety of shapes sizes and colors. No need to buy a bunch of huge expensive pumpkins! Have you ever noticed the crazy price tags on some of those big pumpkins?!! These little cuties are far more affordable and make just as much of an impact!
Side note, I made sure to get a couple of pies or “sugar pumpkins” that I could cook later on. Gotta love those fall-inspired recipes.
10 Gallon crocks as planters
With a little help from the chickens, I’ve been using these fabulous 10-gallon crocks (I previously found at an estate sale) as planters.
You may wonder how it’s possible to water plants in a crock with no drainage holes. I remedied this by simply lining the bottom of the crocks with some plastic (to protect from scratches) and filling the bottom with rocks. Then I just inserted some plastic potters with my choice of flowers and greenery. I manage to water the plants inside the crocks for the most part. However, if the plants ever need good watering, I simply remove the plastic pot out of the crocks and water the plants on the lawn. Once the water has drained sufficiently, I just pop them back in the crocks.
You cant get away with this method with every kind of plant of course. Some plants you will have to remove from the crocks and water them on the lawn every time. So keep this in mind when selecting your plants.
Festive colorful mums
I was so excited to find a large selection of mums for sale at our local Walmart garden department. These flowers are the absolute best when decorating for fall. The beautiful selection of deep purples, blood oranges, and vibrant yellows just screams fall and are stunning to look at.
Fun hay bales
We use larger bales to line the chicken’s hen house and egg boxes, but I decided to go ahead and use a couple to decorate our front porch. I tilted them slightly at an angle so they pointed toward the front door. I think this really draws you in and makes the entryway more inviting. Just the smell of these things brings old memories of hay rides at our local pumpkin farm back home in upstate NY.
I nestled a couple of smaller straw bales that served as a little step next to the larger bales. They are the perfect place to display the gorgeous pumpkins. These little bales are also great if you don’t plan to use large bales for your décor. I’m not gonna lie, the large hay bales are heavy! I had to recruit the hubs for help with those things. The smaller bales, however, are just as cute and are a lot easier to carry around!
Inviting front door mat
I love the idea of layering front door mats. In this case, I opted to go with a large black rubber mat that I could cut down to size to fit snugly in our door frame area. This way I could just change out the top mat to fit the holiday theme of the season. This “Home Sweet Home” mat was too cute to pass up. I love that I can use it year round if I wanted, and its neutral colors will go with any décor.
Vibrant yellow wreath to complete the fall front porch look
This beautiful yellow wreath is the cherry on top of this gorgeous fall porch. I tend to use this wreath during the spring, summer, and fall. The style and color are so transitional and will merge with the ever-changing seasons. I recommend using a wreath hanger that best matches the color of your door for a seamless look.

So pretty!!! I am glad to see I am not the only one who gets pics out late LOL I love using crocks too, I just have to remember to take them in before frost so they don’t crack with water in the bottom. Ask me how I know? LOL
Jen
Thank you! Yes I love using crocks outside and inside my home. I kinda think I might have an addiction;)
